Directions from Addo Main Camp
To leave the Park, turn left and head towards the town of Addo on the R335. Then, turn right onto the R336 towards Kirkwood. At the intersection with Kirkwood Main Road, continue straight, passing the golf course on your right. At the T-junction, turn right, pass the cemetery, and turn left at the park signboard for the “Kabouga Section.” Proceed through several gates (remembering to close them) until you reach the park boom gate, where staff will assist you.

To reach the park, take the R75 towards Graaff-Reinet. Then, turn right at the signpost indicating Kirkwood and Addo Elephant National Park. Continue along this road, passing through the Main Road of Kirkwood. At the four-way stop, turn left, proceeding past the Kirkwood golf course on your right. At the T-junction, turn right and follow the road past the cemetery. Turn left at the park signboard for the “Kabouga Section.” Pass through several gates (remembering to close them) until you reach the park boom gate, where staff will assist you.
The Kabouga area is rich in wildlife, featuring species like red hartebeest, kudu, bushbuck, warthog, baboon, vervet monkey, and various small mammals. Diverse birdlife, including ostriches, can be observed, while hippos move between Kabouga and the Darlington Dam area in the Sundays River. Although evidence of leopards has been found in mountainous areas, these elusive predators are rarely spotted.
The vegetation in the Kabouga area comprises Albany Thicket, riverine thicket along the river course, Southern mistbelt forest in the ravines and on the slopes of the mountains, and Fynbos on the mountain plateaus and slopes.
